It says there were once many types of this group (dicynodonts) “ swaggering” across the landscape but they are the last. We then get our Placerias identified correctly as non-dinosaurs. Wow, you killed a lungfish! Then the coelophysis gets scared off by a Placerias grunting. We then get a very tense shot of a coelophysis killing a lungfish. Coelophysis is also “ light boned, agile, and perfectly adapted for killing“. This is a true feature of dinosaurs, but also, like, every other reptile out there so it wouldn’t be very useful in an all-reptilian environment. Unfortunately, they then explain that dinosaurs survived the Triassic-Jurassic extinction because they don’t waste much water when they excrete and would, therefore, be better adapted to survival in harsh desert conditions. Luckily, they also show dinosaurs as fairly rare which is good. The Placerias are shown as giant scaly pigs with tusks, which is a fairly accurate reconstruction, although as they were “mammal-like reptiles” it would be nice to see a few bristle bits of fur as opposed to a completely scaly covering. They are shown as having ruled the world for the last 50 million years but are in their decline, which is true-ish. The next animal shown is a herd of Placerias. However, although it wasn’t the commonly accepted at the time, it would be nice to see a little feathering on our coelophysis. Their portrayal of coelophysis is quite good for its time, with a nice colouring. We are introduced to coelophysis, our first dinosaur. This starts the documentary’s long-recurring theme of glorifying the dinosaurs. We start with the narrator telling us that many families of reptiles have already come and gone, but now, something ‘ revolutionary‘ has occurred.

It only really got dry near the end of the Triassic.

The environment as a “ harsh place, dominated by deserts” world is all wrong, as most of the animals that are in the episode live much earlier in a swampy marshland (although in the “Wet Season” it is pretty good). It is set in the Ghost Ranch, North America. The documentary, focused on dinosaurs, starts with dinosaur’s humble beginnings in the Mid Triassic period, to discover “ where dinosaurs came from”. Yes, today we will be not only talking about dinosaurs, but Walking With Dinosaurs. This miniseries came out a while ago, in 1999, so it will be interesting to see how the science has aged. Hello, everyone! Similar to the post Jurassic World-Accuracy Test here we have today the version for a very different group of films with the same subject.
